Be reverent

Titus 2:3

3Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good.

Every time I read this I can’t help but think that there must not of been very many locker rooms in Paul’s day! I say that because this passage is not just about older women! We all need to be reverent, and not slanderous. Men have become just as bad (if not worse) as women on this subject. We have become a society that craves the latest gossip, regardless if the gossip is true (typically it is not). We each in turn end up slandering others, and dishonoring ourselves, and the Lord. Notice how Paul follows with addicted to much wine. It seems these two go hand in hand. People fall off into a bottle, and the slander becomes more jagged, and the truth becomes harder to find. This passage is really a call to each of us. We should be mindful of what we pass on as the truth, and we should be mindful of all of the excesses in our life. Be reverent, and teach what is good. Then there will be no need for explanation later.

Peace,

Brian
