Tuesday the 2nd

Mark 4: 37 A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. 38 Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” 39 He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.

When I read this, it reminds me so much of everyday life for so many or us. how often do we find ourselves in the middle of the storms of life. The wind is howling, and the waves are coming in over the boat. We get to rocking so violently sometimes we are just sure that the boat is going to flip over. Yet there by our side, within arms reach is our life saver. But we don’t call out do we. I think of how the disciples must of felt, as they watch the storm clouds roll in. Anyone that has spent anytime on the water will see the clouds coming, and know what is in store.  You can feel the wind pick up, and the air become crisp. All the while the disciples sat and waited. You can hear them now, oh it will not be that bad, we can ride this one out, we can get through this. We treat life much the same way. We want to wait until it is almost to late to call on the Lord. We are sure that we can handle it, we are so sure we can do it on our own. The only question I am left with is why? Why would we want to put ourselves through that? Christ did not hang on a cross so that we might fight this world alone. His death and resurrection brought us into a brotherhood with the Lord. We are family, and like any good close knit family, we stand together, not just in the good times, but when the dark storm clouds roll in as well.  Christ is there for you, standing within your grasp, waiting to be called on, waiting for you to allow Him to come in and calm the waters, and roll away the clouds. Much like the disciples, instead of calling on the Lord, we wait, then we too ask Christ, don’t you care if we drown? This is the point I want to drive home. Yes Christ does care if you drown. He loves each and everyone of us, yes you too. He gave His human life, not because we deserved it, or expected it. At the very moment when we least deserved it, Christ gave all, so that we might have more. That type of love, that unselfish love, it is not given, then revoked. Christ did not make the sacrifice, then say “hey good luck”! He has a vested interest in you. I promise you, He does not want you to drown, and He will not let you drown.  He is there waiting…… don’t wait for Him to show up, call on Him. Don’t wait for the waves to start breaking over the bow, He is closer than you think, and He loves you more than you can know. He will quiet the storm, still the waters, and settle the boat. The ferocity of the storms of this life are no match for the One who conquered death. Let Him stand by your side.
