Monday the 8th

2 Timothy 2: 15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.

Do your best. That is really all we can do. I was watched a movie last week, and the statement was made in reference to sports “you never play at 100%”. That is true, in sports, in life, and in your spiritual journey. We are never 100% We are imperfect, we slip, we slide, we twist the spiritual ankle and have to limp along for a while….but it comes back to one thought, you have to do your best. When we push ourselves in life, we have others that come to help. They shore up our weak spots, and help us along until. I think of the farmer who was injured at harvest time, so his neighbors came and harvested his field. We see it in sports, when the quarterback is playing hurt, the line makes an extra effort to protect him……and in our spiritual life when we are bruised, tired, and sore, it is Christ that comes and takes our best and makes it His best. We all face challenges, we get the wind knocked out of us, we get knocked down, we struggle to make the next step. No matter the hardship, we must  still work to do our best to present yourself to God as one approved. I think of a General on a battlefield. When he goes to see his battle weary troops, he does not expect to see men full of energy, with clean uniforms, sitting around as if everything is OK. He knows he will see men and women who have given everything they have, and are ready to go back for more. For me, that is how I want to present myself to God everyday. A little tired, a little ragged, frayed around the edges form fighting on the spiritual battlefield. I know that God will see the desire to carry on. His son will comfort and restore me, the Holy Spirit will guide and direct me. I will leave back out into the world invigorated, ready to give my best for another day, another battle, another play. There is no reason to be ashamed of the battle scars that we carry, the Lord sees them not as weakness, but as a badge of courage. The Word of Truth will sustain, it will fortify, and replenish. Share it with your fellow man, it might be the very thing that pulls them through the day. Present yourself as one approved, for you are. You have been called, you have been chosen, you have been ordained by the Lord into His kingdom. All you have to do……is your best.
