Thursday the 18th

Colossians 2: 8

8See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ.

When we start professing our principles over the teachings of Christ, we have….weather we intended or not…….stared professing a hollow and deceptive philosophy. This has to be one of my biggest pet peeves. I am not sure when it became so popular to put our own spin of the word of God, but there is little doubt that it has splintered the cross of Christ. I know from reading Spurgeon, and Edwards, that they too dealt with the same issue, and Paul makes it clear that He also had to contend with the problem. I guess the more things change the more some things stay the same….Folks, we have a blueprint, a hand book, a set of guidelines, call it what you will, but the bible was put here to give us the written word of God, and between the covers we will find all of the doctrine that we need to lead a successful life. However we need to pay careful attention to not only what is says, but what it does not say! Listen for the truth, listen for the depth of the love and understanding, the forgiveness, and the compassion that comes from following the principles of Christ. There are many people out there who are trying to make a living off of telling people what their itching ears want to hear. They will twist and turn the word to mean what they want it to. SO be on guard, spend time in prayer, spend time in the bible, listen for the Spirit that lives within you. Christ will blaze the trail and clear the path, follow him, and his word. Cling to the Word of God, it will keep you safe form the hollow word.

May the Peace of the Lord be with you,

Brian
